Now, here’s today’s gem
Today's destination is the "Horse Capital of the World" and the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass region, take a look ⬇️
Nestled in Kentucky's Bluegrass region, Lexington blends equestrian heritage with urban charm. Hundreds of horse farms dot the countryside, while downtown pulses with energy, offering diverse dining, shopping, and entertainment. Cultural venues thrive alongside outdoor adventures, inviting visitors to explore and immerse themselves in Lexington's vibrant community spirit and Southern charm.
Equestrian Excellence
Lexington is synonymous with horse racing and breeding, making it a hot spot for equestrian enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Lexington is home to some 450 horse farms and more…
Keeneland Racecourse: You really have to experience the excitement of Thoroughbred racing. Keeneland is one of the best places in the nation to do it. As one of the most prestigious racecourses in the country, with its lush grounds and iconic grandstand, Keeneland offers many different events, such as races and tours, until April 26, and they begin again in October.
Kentucky Horse Park: The Kentucky Horse Park celebrates the horse industry's history, culture, and heritage. They have interactive exhibits, horse shows, trail rides, museums, campgrounds, and many visitor amenities (like a pool). At the campgrounds, you can camp for a night or stay for a while, whatever fits the itinerary.
Historic City Charm
Lexington's rich history is evident in its well-preserved architecture, museums, and landmarks.
Mary Todd Lincoln House: Step back in time at the Mary Todd Lincoln House, the childhood home of Abraham Lincoln's wife. Guided tours provide a glimpse into the life of one of America's most intriguing First Ladies.
Downtown Historic District: As you walk through Lexington's downtown historic district, you'll find beautifully restored buildings housing boutique shops, art galleries, and cozy cafes. The Historic Lexington Courthouse is not far. This staple of Lexington architecture and community was repurposed in 2002 when the court moved out, and the Lexington History Museum moved in. When it was found that the building had asbestos in 2012, the museum moved out, and again, the city had to decide what could be done with the building. Thanks to the bold decision of the local government to attempt to make the former courthouse self-sustaining, today, the old courthouse is safe to visit and is home to new attractions like restaurants, cafes, and the Lexington Visitor’s Bureau (which are much more exciting to visit than courtrooms).
But there is so much more, so in collaboration with @experiencelexington on Instagram, we made this:
