The Happiest Town in America? 🌄🚴‍♂️ - Boulder, Colorado.
Read for a special interview with a Boulder local!
Today’s location is obsessed with the outdoors! Get a glimpse below. ⬇️
Boulder, Colorado, laid in the Boulder Valley, is now home to over 100,000 people, but the area (based on archaeological evidence) has likely been inhabited for something like 13,000 years.
So, it’s clear to see that life thrives in Boulder, which could also have something to do with National Geographic claiming it to be the “happiest city in America” in 2017. While arguments could be made about whether that is true, we’ll serve as Boulder’s representative anyway.
First and foremost, no one driving the Boulder Turnpike for the first time can ignore the Flatirons. The five so-called “flatirons” that look down serve somewhat as a symbol for Boulder and it’s clear to see why. Not only are they stunning to look at in the winter, but they are also a prime hiking spot in the summer.
Hiking, however, does not compare to Boulder’s booming biking scene. The city boasts its rideable paths and trails, making Boulder easily navigatable for residents and visitors. We suggest you ride to Pearl Street, the city’s hub for all things arts, eats, and performing. Pearl Street may just be the number one rated stress reliever of all the Boulder residents, not to mention the University of Colorado Boulder students!
“Visit Boulder,” the visitor’s bureau confirmed to us the four-block, traffic-less strip of Pearl Mall is a great place to be, going as far as to say it may be the best people-watching in the state (and we are talking about Colorado here)! They also told us a fun fact: Boulder is home to 100+ murals.
With so much happening in Boulder, we didn’t want to miss anything, so we asked Boulder community member, owner of the Boulder Weekly, and author of “The Deadhead Cyclist,” Stewart Sallo, some questions about his experience in Boulder to try and get the true local appeal. Stewart told us he chose Boulder to fulfill his dreams of owning his own weekly newspaper, and since there wasn’t one in Boulder at the time, he packed his bags.
After 31 years of running his newspaper, he hasn’t regretted it.
Stewart tells us:
“My favorite thing about living in Boulder is the beauty of our natural surroundings, and the close proximity to the many offerings of the State of Colorado. These run the gamut from the natural, such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Vail, and the many incredible mountain communities, to the cultural, such as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Colorado Rockies baseball team, and Red Rocks Amphitheater. In Boulder, we have more than our share of music venues, art galleries, great restaurants, the University of Colorado, our famous Pearl Street pedestrian mall, and other cultural attractions, but also the proximity to Denver and the rest of the state provides small city intimacy with access to big city benefits…
I have spent countless hours riding the trails and roads just minutes from my doorstep, and have made great use of the outdoor lifestyle that is available to residents and visitors to the Boulder area.”
See you in Boulder!
