Today’s location fosters a sense of community from an unlikely source! Watch our preview below ⬇️

Located in Fayette County, Georgia, just 30 miles south of Atlanta, Peachtree City uniquely blends Southern hospitality and modern living. Characterized by its lush greenery, scenic lakes, and meticulously planned neighborhoods, this charming city offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby Atlanta. Peachtree City encourages residents and visitors alike to explore all it offers, like vibrant shopping districts, diverse dining options, historic landmarks, and outdoor recreational areas, but they don’t get around like the rest of us…

Without a doubt, the most qualifying trait Peachtree possesses to be featured in today’s edition is their 100 miles of golf cart paths, which they all use to get around. But it’s what they do with them makes all the difference.

What would your town be like if everyone used golf carts instead of cars? Well, that’s exactly what we wanted to know, and who better to ask than a local? We spoke with the Mayor of Peachtree City, Kim Learnard, to get her perspective on what makes Peachtree and the people of Peachtree unique.

Here’s the interview

Q: In your words, could you tell us a little bit about Peachtree City and its culture?

A: “Peachtree is really all about quality of life. We have something for everyone. We have our five villages, different areas of the city with shopping centers in each of the five villages, and different types of residential in each as well. We also have an industrial park, a small regional airport, an outdoor amphitheater (about 2,200 seats), and just a whole lot of other indoor and outdoor recreation. We have our tennis center, more than 600 acres of nature areas, events and festivals, shopping and dining, and then, the cherry on top is 100 miles of golf cart path, paved, so that we all have that option to get anywhere we want in the city on a golf cart!

Q: What would Mayor Learnard do with a free Saturday in Peachtree City?

A: “First of all, every single Saturday in Peachtree City, there is a farmers market. It’s pretty robust, and it’s always from 9-1, and most of us get there on our golf carts. I might spend the Saturday going for a long run on our paved paths. And if my grandkids are visiting, I’ll take them to the city’s library or to any one of the city’s parks or go through a drive-through on the golf cart. And if I’m lucky, on that Saturday night there may be a concert at our outdoor amphitheater which is called the Fred. The Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheater, we call it the Fred, was funded and conceptualized many years ago by former mayor Fred Brown. So that would be the ideal Saturday in Peachtree City. And again, the idea of taking the golf carts… is idyllic. People at the end of a busy working week, on a Friday night, they’ll put their families on a golf cart and go out for an ice cream cone!”

Q: What other advantages do the golf-cart paths offer to residents and visitors when they're in the city that we wouldn’t necessarily think of?

A: “So, it's great to have connectivity, first of all. And it is a low-emission alternative transportation mode, so some families who maybe would have to contemplate a second car for their teenager may not have to at all, you know, they can buy a good, used golf cart and set their teenager free. Once you’re 15 years old and you have a permit, you can drive a golf cart unaccompanied. So, one advantage is that you can leave the car in the garage quite a bit… and there’s something to be said for the social aspect of driving a golf cart instead of a car; I’ve seen this a million times: if someone is pulled over on a golf cart or if they're looking at a map, every single person, I promise you, who drives by is going to stop and say, ‘You doing okay? Do you need anything?’ If your neighbors are out and you're going by in a golf cart, you will pull over and say hello

When the elementary schools have open house night, the flyer will say, ‘Parking will be limited, so bring your golf cart.’ It’s just super social. And when you have 100 miles of golf cart path, you want that to be through beautiful places and parks. We have 3 lakes in the city, so the paths wind around some very beautiful places. And we make it a priority to ensure protected green space and green corridors, so we’ve got a more beautiful city to look at while we’re on our golf carts.”

Q: Are there any restaurants or places to grab a drink that stand out in Peachtree City?

A: “Yeah, I think our citizens genuinely try to support local. There are locally owned places like Pascals, Curious Pig, Georgia Shrimp Company, Palmers, and there’s a new one called Elliots. So there are many places, and they're all accessible by golf cart!”

Q: What else should our readers should know?

A: “We are located about 30 miles south of Atlanta and only 25 miles south of Antlanta’s airport. People here call [Peachtree] “The Bubble” because we feel a bit insulated and love our quality of life. It’s thriving. We have the industrial park and airport to support it. We have thriving industries, green manufacturing, corporate headquarters, and lots of good jobs. I see an influx right now of younger families. My children are in their thirties, and now they’ve got children of their own, and they are flocking back to Peachtree City because it’s just a great city.

Q: What have you done for the city, and what excites you for its future?

A: “Under my leadership, we are upgrading and adding to our recreational facilities. We have a renowned tennis center and are remodeling it right now. We have college conference championships here and hotels for people to stay in.

Our new golf cart culinary tour has been a smash hit… Under my leadership, we’re really sharpening our focus on recreation in the city and ensuring we have something for everyone.”
