As you’re entering Burlington, you’ll be greeted by the sight of Lake Champlain stretching out before you, its sparkling waters reflecting the hues of the sky above. On a fair day, you may be lucky enough to catch a fleet of sailboats anchored in the water while you pedal along the waterfront bike path.

Following the roads down to the water, you’ll be met with a spectacular view of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. The mountains consist of 46 peaks, all exceeding 4,000 feet in height. If you scale all of them, you earn the title “46er.” Doesn’t sound too bad, does it?

The staple of the town, though, must be the Church Street Marketplace. This pedestrian-friendly is lined with different shops, cafes, and restaurants, where locals and visitors alike gather to shop, dine, and soak in the lake air. Sometimes, street performers or festivals will also give you some additional entertainment.

Church Street just wouldn’t be the same without the iconic steeple of the Unitarian Church of Burlington. Built in 1816, the steeple’s one shortcoming came at the hands of a lightning strike, which shifted it two feet over. This forced the steeple to be rebuilt, and we are very happy they did it. After all, the church gives the well-known street its name, and it continues to liven up the downtown Burlington area to this day.

Burlington is well-known for its contemporary vibe. With its art galleries, theaters, and music venues. Events like the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, the South End Art Hop, and the Vermont International Film Festival showcase the city's creative spirit and welcoming nature. It’s probably qualities like this that are responsible for making Burlington home to 11,000 UVM undergraduates every year.
